“The transfer of foreign visitors to the south of the country has always been a challenge, and with this advance, not only does it simplify operations, but it also strengthens the flow of tourism and opens a concrete door for the growth of the sector,” said the minister.
Among the main beneficiaries are emblematic destinations such as the Jesuit Missions, declared World Heritage, and other cultural and natural attractions of Itapúa. “We are talking about an area with enormous potential, which needs to be connected to the world. Accessibility is fundamental for a destination to consolidate itself as a tourist destination,” she stressed.
The minister also celebrated the institutional commitment behind this project, which is being carried out by the National Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DINAC) in coordination with the Municipality of Encarnación. “The work we carry out from Senatur in different areas to strengthen tourism in the region will be directly facilitated with this international airport. It is a key tool to attract more visitors, boost investments and diversify the offer of events and conventions,” he said.
These works become even more important in view of the WRC ueno Rally of Paraguay2025, which will have the eyes of the world on the department of Itapúa. The historic race on Paraguayan soil will be the tenth date of the season, and will take place from August 28 to 31.
For this purpose, and according to DINAC executives, strategic infrastructure improvements are being made at Encarnación Airport, such as the extension of the apron, lighting, change of runway and navigation equipment. “Everything is aimed at guaranteeing safe operations and international standards, so we will be ready to welcome the world”, said the minister.
Finally, she valued the fact that the airport will be operated by local technicians, trained by the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics, highlighting the commitment to regional development. “With this real and permanent connectivity, Encarnación and the south of the country enter a new stage, and it is a historic opportunity to position ourselves as a competitive and sustainable tourist destination,” she said.
