Itapúa is getting ready to shine on the world stage. With the transfer of the Encarnación airport to the National Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DINAC), the department takes a crucial step towards its positioning as a first class tourist destination and venue for major international events.
The Minister of Tourism, Ms. Angie Duarte, expressed her enthusiasm for this advance: “Itapúa in the world’s showcase! The transfer of the airport paves the way for the World Rally of Paraguay (WRC), an event that promises to catapult Paraguay as a world-class destination for motorsport”.
“In addition, it will allow the development of tourism and connectivity of Itapúa by positioning the airport on the world radar with the possibility of national and international airlines including Encarnación. Tourism develops and generates income,” the Minister said.
This strategic agreement will not only boost motoring, but will also open the doors to an unprecedented flow of tourists. The modernization and expansion of the Encarnación airport will make it possible to receive visitors from all over the world, who will be able to enjoy the natural, cultural and historical attractions that Itapúa has to offer.
Itapúa is preparing for a promising future, where tourism and international events merge to create a unique experience for visitors. The Rally alone is expected to attract more than 250,000 tourists per year and over the 3 years of the event, Itapua would exceed 1,000,000 tourists, which evidences the need for international connectivity.
