Throughout each round of the FIA World Rally Championship, points are awarded for first through tenth place, both in the overall standings and in each eligible support championship—which, in our event, are WRC2, WRC2 Challenger, and WRC3.
In addition to the overall points, points are awarded for “Super Sunday”, which, in a way, is equivalent to what in other competitions is a “stage winner”; Super Sunday points go to whoever posts the best cumulative times on Sunday’s stages, and that person isn’t necessarily the rally winner.
Similarly, this applies to the “Power Stage”, which has an even longer history than Super Sunday. It is the final stage of the entire event and is always televised. The winner of the Power Stage is not necessarily the rally winner or even the Super Sunday winner. In both cases, these are bonus points provided for in the regulations.
But be aware: bonus points from these two extra ranking systems ARE NOT AWARDED in the support championships.
Unlike points in the overall standings, Super Sunday and the Power Stage only award points to the top five finishers. The scoring system for each round is as follows:
| Overall position | Rally | Super Sunday | Power Stage |
| 1st. place | 25 points | 5 points | 5 points |
| 2nd. place | 17 points | 4 points | 4 points |
| 3rd. place | 15 points | 3 points | 3 points |
| 4th. place | 12 points | 2 points | 2 points |
| 5th. place | 10 points | 1 point | 1 point |
| 6th. place | 8 points | ||
| 7th. place | 6 points | ||
| 8th. place | 4 points | ||
| 9th. place | 2 points | ||
| 10th. place | 1 point |
“The Winner Takes It All”: According to this table, whoever achieves a perfect weekend can earn a grand total of 35 points; of course, it’s not impossible, but it requires virtually absolute dominance throughout the entire rally.
In last year’s WRC ueno rally del Paraguay, Sébastien Ogier earned only 26 points (25 in the overall standings + 1 from Super Sunday), while Thierry Neuville, finishing third, earned exactly 25 points (the 15 for his position + victory in Super Sunday and the Power Stage).
And yes, paradoxically, Elfyn Evans, who finished second, had earned only 22 points (17 for his final position + 3 from Super Sunday + 3 from the Power Stage).
So far in 2026, turning to the current champion, Sébastien Ogier was the only one to hit the “jackpot” in Greece with the maximum 35 points. Last season, Elfyn Evans did it in Sweden, Kalle Rovanperä in Spain and Finland, and… yes, Sébastien Ogier again in Chile and Japan.
